The N.Z.H.A PROMOTES THESE IDEAS

Auckland, New Zealand
New-Zealanders’ health could be improved by greater emphasis on all aspects of natural heath and healing. It is important to take a holistic view of health and healing which sees the healing process as a matter of mind, body, and spirit. Healthy diet and exercise are vital for health. Restoring and maintaining the health of the natural environment is an essential part of keeping or population healthy. This includes using organic and biodynamic farming methods. Consideration of social issues, justice, and peace throughout the world is relevant to health. A loving concern for people, plants, animals and environment is the basis of good health for all New-Zealand.

CELEBRATING INTEGRATIVE HOLISTIC PRACTICE
By Julian McCusker Dixon

What if the hypothesized causes of serious mental illness including the dopamine theory on schizophrenia or serotonin theory on depression are incorrect. **(Nancy C Andreasen MD; PhD, 2002 Brave New Brain). The research and clinical results in numerous articles and books over the last 10 years fully support the assessment.

·         Why are more people diagnosed as mentally sick, with such high numbers being treated with dopaminergic and serotoneargic drugs?
·         Why as we talk about recovery, we never talk about the discovery that there is no existing formula to cure mental illness?
·         Why is it clinicians prescribe psychotropic drugs to heavily deregulate major dopamine and serotonin pathways in order to balance never proven imbalances?
·         Why does New Zealand have the highest suicide rate for young people amongst OECD countries with 80% plus of the 550 suicides in NZ in 2010 relate to mental health?
Why are we so indifferent to the inhumanity of obsession with drugs to medicate without due consideration of the effects of effective nutrition?
Let nutrition be your medicine. Medication is not just a side effect – it is the effect. Many ethical and humanitarian controversies in biological psychiatry seeks to take away the nature of the brain’s reward system causing motivational and behavioral toxicity. Termed a “chemical lobotomy”- symptoms not unlike cocaine or heroin, with the same inherent dependence and addiction. Such motivational toxicity is not unlike that which disables cohorts of recreational medication that impacts the physical, emotional, psychological, cognitive and behavioral
ability, even incapacitating and disabling to the point of paranoia. What would you expect from mind altering and potent disabling medication?
Increased dosages encourage metabolic disorders eg; diabetes, nervous disorder, eg paranoia, cardiovascular and neurological dysfunction, a synergy additionally confused by atypical antipsychotics and SSRI antidepressants.
We need to get back to basics and common sense-to become active and educative in integrative holistic practices. Youth workforce development celebrates holistic determinants that effectively deal with patients and offer guidelines and not just prescriptions for any given situation. Each person is unique depending on his/her genetic makeup, nutritional health status, and lifestyle practices which may vary in responses to any given situations. How do we find the tools to define exactly what a patient needs, means addressing where the person requires metabolic detoxification.
Knowing what type of support is most appropriate to the history and physical assessment, is available. Any biochemical alterations change the capacity of specific body detoxification pathways and can alter other such things as intestinal permeability; eg; medications may suppress specific detoxification enzymes.  Some enzymes may induce specific detoxification enzyme pathways that result in recurrent headaches and other allergy symptoms. Alterations in intestinal permeability may result in selective nutritional deficiency due to mal absorption, and further aggravating problems of intestinal permeability. What are we doing to address symptoms and conditions from the taking of additional therapeutic amounts of aspirin; ibuprofen, allergy medication, or other exposures to what might be harmful chemicals that cause alterations or depletions? Developing symptoms can be due to toxic accumulation that brings problems in organ systems including musculoskeletal, immune, endocrine, cardio-vascular, genitor-urinary and nervous system disorders. These are just some of the questions we will address in our upcoming seminar. Integrating holistic practice is about the whole person, the unique individual. We celebrate the opportunity and the challenge that makes healing an enjoyable journey.

Join us on Friday and Saturday July 27th-28th 2012 at the Auckland Horticultural Centre and discover the method in the, madness…
